Entire working life involved in ship management, operations, chartering and sale and purchase since 1963 (tween-deckers, bulk carriers, OBO's tankers). Director and Vice-Chairman J C Carras & Sons (Shipbrokers) Ltd. (1974-1986). Director and Managing Director of Shipbroking and Ship Agency company in London (1986-2003). Director, The Baltic Exchange (2001-2003; 2007-2011; 2013-date). Director BIMCO (1979-1985) (2003-2009). Chairman BIMCO Documentary Committee (2003-2009). Member BIMCO Executive Committee (2003-2009). President of the LMAA (2008-2011). Member of the LMAA Supporting Members' Liaison Committee (1994-1998; 2003-2014) Member of the Admiralty and Commercial Court Users Committee.

Currently practising full time as maritime arbitrator.
