LMAA Seminar in Copenhagen

The Association was delighted to meet friends and colleagues at our seminar and reception in Copenhagen on Thursday 22 September. The LMAA is very grateful to BIMCO for kindly hosting the event in the delightful setting of BIMCO House.

LMAA President David Steward reported on the Association’s news and – hot off the press – the Law Commission’s Consultation Paper on the English Arbitration Act 1996. Full Member Daniella Horton spoke about the importance of taking care with your arbitration agreement. Stinne Taiger Ivø of BIMCO gave a very useful and interesting update on current projects. Past President Clive Aston described efficiencies in arbitration, with particular reference to the use of technology and Early Neutral Evaluation (ENE). Full Member Ben Goss commented on the use of arbitrators with a commercial background and Aspiring Full Member Steffen Pedersen gave the perspective of a recent user of LMAA arbitration, having formerly worked as a lawyer in private practice. There were also valuable contributions from Full Member Sara Gillingham Aukner and Aspiring Full Member George Eddings.
