Shipping & Trade Day 2021, Odessa

Although it is hoped by all involved that this event will be able to revert to an in person event in Odessa, Ukraine in due course, on 15 December 2021 LMAA arbitrator, Daniella Horton, again participated in this annual event virtually (currently in its second year in webinar format), organised by Black Sea lawyers, Interlegal, and sponsored by Ince.

Speakers were drawn from across the shipping community worldwide, from USA and Brazil in the West, to Thailand in the East, with Cyprus, Italy, Poland, Spain, UK and Ukraine represented from Europe, each sharing 2021 experiences and news from their respective jurisdictions.

Daniella updated the Shipping & Trade Day audience on experiences of virtual hearings a year on (her 2020 presentation having focused on the advent of virtual hearings, as a silver lining arising out of the early days of the pandemic), commented on the latest review of the sets of LMAA procedural rules, resulting in the LMAA Terms & Procedures 2021 and spoke on the expanding LMAA dispute resolution tool kit, including the increased use of adjudication and dispute boards in maritime-related construction projects and the upcoming launch of LMAA Early Neutral Evaluation (LMAA ENE), the LMAA’s new dispute resolution service to users.
