The Association is very grateful to HFW for compiling and sharing their annual analysis of maritime arbitration again this year. The LMAA’s statistics for 2025 not only show clear growth but represent levels not seen since 2014. The report can be found [click here]

The analysis records that 2,015 references were commenced. Those references resulted (after settlements) in 563 awards, 83 of them after oral hearings. The LMAA also endorses HFW’s comment that if anything the numbers are understated, as not all arbitrators send in their statistics.

The Association is proud of our continuing pre-eminence, which is due not only to those involved but for two other reasons: the distinction of the maritime cluster in London and the UK of which we are a part, and the overwhelming choice of English law for shipping contracts across the globe.
