LMAA Seminar in Oslo

The Association was delighted to see so many delegates at our seminar in Oslo on Monday 26.

LMAA President David Steward spoke about the Association’s recent news and the use of LMAA Terms in offshore wind energy contracts. He also offered some initial observations on the Consultation Paper by the Law Commission on the Arbitration Act 1996. Past President Clive Aston spoke about efficiencies in dispute resolution, including Early Neutral Evaluation (ENE) and virtual or hybrid hearings. Full Member and Oslo resident Sara Gillingham Aukner described key features of LMAA arbitration.

There was then a lively and interesting panel discussion, covering such matters as whether witness and expert evidence is more suited to a hearing in person than a virtual hearing, the time for issue of awards, and the practcial use of ENE in various types of dispute. We are very grateful to the panel participants, Michael Brooks, Eleanor Midwinter, Eleanor Scudder, Fredrik Falck-Knutsen, Camilla Barr and Chris Walker. Grateful thanks also to Chris Grieveson and Herman Steen for moderating, and to Wikborg Rein for kindly hosting the seminar and reception.
