The Association is very sad to report the passing of Tim Marshall, who died on 5 November 2025.
Tim was one of the most senior and distinguished Members. He was active on tribunals to the end.
After a stellar academic career, Tim was called to the Bar, doing pupillage with Anthony Colman QC (later Mr Justice Colman). After admission as a solicitor, he joined Holman Fenwick & Willan in London and rose to partnership with them, staying for fourteen years. He then joined a specialist West End firm and was also inhouse legal adviser to IRISL, the Iranian shipping fleet.
Tim became a Supporting Member of the LMAA in 1993 and was elected to full membership in 2004.
Tim’s funeral will take place at Mortlake Crematorium at noon on Friday 12 December, with a gathering at The Ship pub nearby afterwards.
Tim’s intellect and quality of mind were shown by the clarity, brevity and complete lack of fuss with which he dealt with everything, great and small. He was regularly to be found at Lord’s and The Oval. He will be much missed.
