Graduated in Jurisprudence (Brasenose College, Oxford): 1971. Called to the Bar: 1972 (Harmsworth Scholar of the Middle Temple), Practising Barrister: 1972-1975.
1975 - 1980: employed by Thomas R Miller & Son, managers of the UK P&I and Defence Clubs engaged in handling both routine P&I claims (cargo claims, etc.) and major P&I causalities as well as all types of charterparty disputes and other Defence Club cases.
1980-86: Company Secretary and Director of Globtik Tankers Ltd and Globtik Management Ltd. Legal Adviser to the other companies in Mr Ravi Tikkoo's Globtik Group of Companies. Involved in the operation of a fleet of Aframax crude oil tankers. Chairman of the management company's Safety Committee for UK Flag Ships. Involved in liaising with Japanese and Brazilian shipyards and banks in connection with a new building programme of 8 crude oil tankers; responsible for legal aspects of employment of staff, including representing the management company at Industrial Tribunals.
Arbitrating on a part-time basis since 1982 and on a full time basis since 1998.
1986 - 1998: Associate and Legal Adviser to Consortium Recovery Ltd and associated companies involved in sub-sea recovery and offshore operations, principally in the North Sea.
Member of the Committee of the LMAA 1996 to 2007 and 2016 to date, President of the LMAA 2001 - 2003.
Attended mediation training and became LMAA Accredited Mediator 2001 and has been involved in a number of successful mediations.
Associate of the Nautical Institute. Associate Member of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.
